The BIG Picture: Session 7
6:00-7:15P
Numbers 5:6-21

Okay. Ready? Got a question for you:

What is your biggest problem right now?

What is the first thing that comes to mind?

Tension with your parents?  Stress with a particular teacher?  An exhausting schedule?  An unreasonable coach?  Pressure with a particular group of friends?

All of these are likely answers.  All of these are likely scenarios in the life of a teen.  And yes, all of these can categorically be problems—even “serious” problems.  But none of them are the biggest problem in my life.

The Bible is clear; I am (my heart is) my biggest problem.  My biggest problem is my (heart’s) tendency to stray, to gravitate towards the things of the world.  My biggest problem is (my heart’s) tendency to rebel against the One who created it.  My biggest problem is (my heart’s) tendency to replace Christ, the Living God, with an idol that is powerless and dead.  My biggest problem is (my heart’s) tendency to shift the blame for my sin on something other than myself.  Don’t get me wrong, our circumstances (the heat) can certainly tempt us to sin.  But our circumstances are NEVER the origin for sin.  Sin always, regrettably, originates with us.  It’s source is always a heart that is wandering, wayward and desperately in need of the grace of Christ.
