J. Series: BEHOLD THE MAN
John 19.31-42

It used to mean that the movie was over when the credits roll. The scene would fade to black and endless white text would slowly creep up from the bottom. The actors, directors, producers, stuntmen, CGI and special effects artists, editors, recording locations and townships all noted and thanked.
The movie was over.
It was your cue to gather your empty popcorn bucket and soggy cup of ice and head out.
Not so much anymore.
Patrons have learned that the fade to black doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the story. We have learned that if we are patient—if we wait—the director may have placed something at the end of the credits. There may be a trailer or teaser—something to suggest that the story isn’t over. It will continue!
There is more to come!
In our account, Jesus has died. The scene fades to black. By all appearance the story is over. It’s time to gather our things.
But if we know the Director… If we have been paying close attention to the plot… we should know to stay put. The story ISN’T over! There IS more to come! And it’s more than a trailer at the end of the credits. The climax is still before us.
So hurry to refill your popcorn if you must, the story has only begun! The best part is yet to come!
Tonight is Common Ground Extended Play. This means we worship. Study. Share. Eat and Play altogether tonight!
